Writer's Block

Who hasn’t had it? I’ve got writer’s block. I haven’t written anything for the past 3 days I set aside solely to develop a really important presentation that will essentially count for as much as any exam.

Yet somehow, I manage to get on this blog and moan. Who knows why? Gods, I have to get out of my own head! Let me out!

In other news, I took delivery of a sweet Eee PC today, the 1000HE model. It has ridiculous battery life. Approximately 10 seconds after I turned it on, I made the decision to wipe the disgusting crufty Windows XP operating system and install the sexy minimalist Crunchee linux distribution instead.

Once I did that, I removed the included Openbox window manager and put Xmonad on instead, for a truly minimalist little box. Why do all this? Simple – I’m building the perfect little netbookdevelopment environment.

So far the idea is:

  • Vim for editing
  • XMonad for window managing
  • Haskell for coding
  • Vimperator for browsing (extension that makes Firefox like Vim)

Essentially, the point is that one never ever needs to use the touchpad. I probably won’t remove it because in practice sometimes it’s nice to use for scrolling or drawing pictures, but basically on my netbook I’ll operate entirely with keyboard, which should allow for some really productive dev. sessions (of what, I don’t know yet).

All this to procrastinate on writing a 25 minute presentation; how unnecessarily elaborate…
